Creativity has much to do with experience, observation and imagination, and if any one of those key elements is missing, it doesn’t work.

But first, my reason for including the image at the top of this page.
London's Hackney Archives contains a copy of the Clarnico sweet factory Specialties List (1906) that includes a photograph of the box-making department where foreman John Maycock (circled), my great grandfather, is seen wearing a bow tie and standing near the back of the workshop. Finding this publication was a distinct benefit to me as, at the time, the focus of my artwork was my ancestors' occupations and the materials with which they worked: fabric, slate, wood, etc.
In the introduction to the Specialties List is this sentence:
"We think it probable that the conditions under which our sweets are made may be of interest to our friends and have embraced this opportunity to include some illustrations of our manufacturing departments".
Clarnico's contextualization of process and product encouraged me to follow their lead when planning this website ergo:
I think it possible that the conditions under which my work is made may be of interest so have included information about how and why each series of works developed, and where finished products were exhibited.
I update the website regularly and welcome
questions and comments.
But first...
Below, 'tangled up in blue', the only piece I have made in 2022 and underscores to my intention to take a break from art-making in favour of spending more time with music. I could not resist that a group of guitar bodies generates interesting
negative spaces.
