Creativity has much to do with experience, observation and imagination, and if any one of those key elements is missing, it doesn’t work.

But first... about the photograph at the top of this page.
The Hackney Archives houses a copy of the Clarnico sweet factory Specialties List (1906). It includes a photograph of the box-making department where my great grandfather, John Maycock (circled), is seen wearing a bow tie and standing near the back of the workshop. Finding this publication coincided with my preoccupation with the occupations of my ancestors and the materials with which they worked: fabric, slate, wood, etc.
In the introduction to the Specialties List is this sentence:
"We think it probable that the conditions under which our sweets are made may be of interest to our friends and have embraced this opportunity to include some illustrations of our manufacturing departments".
Clarnico's contextualization of process and product encouraged me to follow their lead when planning this website ergo:
I think it possible that the conditions under which my work is made may be of interest so have included information about how and why each series developed, and also where finished works were exhibited.

I update the website regularly and welcome

But first...
Below 'tangled up in blue', one of just five small pieces made in 2022. It is the result of spending more time playing guitar.
A byproduct has been images that illustrate how, when guitars are grouped, they generate interesting negative spaces.
The other drawings can be found at:
